The Wayans Family Grooves Together In ‘Dance Flick’

If there are 2 things I know for sure about the Wayan’s family, one is that they have a lock on the satirical movie market. The other is that they definitely keep it all in the family. So, it’s no surprise that their latest flick is doesn’t break away from their successful formula at all. The only question for the Wayans family is ‘what to make fun of’?
For the last few years ‘urban dance’ movies have done very well in theaters. It was only a matter of time before that genre was targeted by the reigning kings of over-the-top satire films. And this time they included even more siblings. There are a total 6 Wayans’ with performing roles in the upcoming film.
However, another secret to Wayans success in the past is racial diversity in casting. Besides a large portion of the Wayan’s family, we’ll see appearances from David Allen Grier, Page Kennedy (Desperate Housewives), Chris Elliot (
Scary Movie 4), Amy Sedaris (
Shrek the Third), Andrew McFarlane (My Wife and Kids), Essence Atkins (
How High) and Tarah Paige (
The Comebacks).
Comedies where a Wayans is credited as a writer, producer or director have a total boxes office take of approximately $900 Million. The majority of those earnings stem from the ultra-successful Scary Movie series. But movies like ‘
White Chicks’, '
Don’t Be a Menace While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood’ and ‘
Little Man’ also saw moderate success.
Wayans family members with roles in the movie include, Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Kim Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, Damon Wayans Jr. , with all 4 of the 5 men having writer credits and an additional Damien Wayans also having writer credits. Yes, that means that there are 7 family members who have some sort of association with the film.
After viewing the
trailer for ‘Dance Flick’ I don’t see any reason why it won’t deliver the same success that Wayans’ have experienced in the past.
A family that sticks together gets rich together.
